Canadian wines may not have the history or prestige that the top winemakers from those countries have, but we do produce many outstanding varieties of wine. Obviously, Canadian icewines are now world-renowned.<\/p>\n

Redstone Winery<\/h3>\nOntario\u2019s Redstone Winery<\/a> was named Winery of the Year at the 2017 WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada. That\u2019s an impressive achievement for one of the relatively newer Canadian wineries.<\/p>\n Redstone\u2019s sustainably farmed 38-acre estate vineyard in Beamsville (located between Hamilton and St. Catharines) produces award-winning Chardonnays, Rieslings, and Ros\u00e9s.<\/p>\n Last month\u2019s issue of Vintages magazine recommended Redstone\u2019s 2012 Limestone Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/strong> ($25), citing its \u201celegant floral, raspberry, and wood spice notes\u201d.<\/p>\n B.C.\u2019s Mission Hill Family Estate Winery<\/a>\u00a0helped put Canada on the international wine map when they took home the\u00a0Best Chardonnay in the World award at the 1993 International Wine & Spirit Competition.<\/p>\n More recently, their\u00a02011 Martin\u2019s Lane Pinot Noir won the top award in the under\u00a0\u00a315<\/span>\u00a0category at 2013\u2019s\u00a0Decanter World Wine Awards. Even more impressive is the fact they were competing against 14,000 other wines. That same year, Mission Hill was named the\u00a0Canadian Winery of the Year at the National Wine Awards.<\/p>\n Earlier this year, respected Canadian wine publication Vintage Assessments recommended Mission Hill\u2019s 2014\u00a0Reserve Merlot<\/strong> ($30).<\/p>\n Inniskillin Wines<\/a>, Ontario\u2019s first icewine maker, is\u00a0Canada\u2019s largest icewine maker and exporter.<\/span>\u00a0Based in Niagara-on-the-Lake with a second winery in B.C., Inniskillin might be best known for their superb icewines, but icewines actually only account for about 10% of the winery\u2019s annual output,<\/p>\n One of the most internationally well-known\u00a0Canadian wineries, Inniskillin also attracts more than 250,000 tourists to their wineries each year.<\/p>\n Icewine lovers can\u2019t go wrong with Inniskillin\u2019s 2014 Okanagan Riesling Icewine<\/strong> ($53). It was a Silver Medal Winner at last year\u2019s WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada.<\/p>\n Burrowing Owl Estate Winery<\/a> was started in 1993 in\u00a0British Columbia\u2019s Okanagan Valley wine region.<\/p>\n Considered one of the leading Canadian wine wineries, Burrowing Owl Estate recently picked up awards for several of their 2014-2016 vintages at the 2017 National Wine Awards of Canada.<\/p>\n One of those award-winning wines is Burrowing Owl\u2019s 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon<\/strong> ($46).<\/p>\n Henry of Pelham Winery<\/a> produced their first vintage in 1988, in the early days of Niagara\u2019s wine production. The winery produces an assortment of well-regarded red and white wines, as well as various icewines.<\/p>\n Toronto Life magazine praised their\u00a02015 Chardonnay Estate ($20) as \u201cone of the LCBO\u2019s best bottles of Ontario wine\u201d. Just last week, the Toronto Star<\/a> spotlighted the winery\u2019s\u00a02015 Henry of Pelham Speck Family Reserve Baco Noir ($25) on a list of recommended wines for Easter dinner.<\/span><\/p>\n Sparkling wines are another award-winning specialty of the winery. Henry of Pelham\u2019s 2012 Cuv\u00e9e Catharine Estate Blanc de Blanc<\/strong> ($45) was a Gold Award winner at the 2017 All Canadian Wine Championships.<\/p>\n Founded in 1956, B.C.\u2019s\u00a0Quails\u2019 Gate Winery<\/a>\u00a0produces more than 50,000 cases of wine each year and is one of the most well-known Canadian wineries.<\/p>\n At the\u00a02017 National Wine Awards of Canada, Quails\u2019 Gate was named sixth on a list of Canada\u2019s top 25 wineries. A November 2017 Globe and Mail article also singled out the winery\u2019s 2015\u00a0Boswell Syrah<\/strong> ($55) as one of B.C.\u2019s top red wines.<\/p>\n Celebrating its 25th anniversary next year, Thirty Bench Wine Makers<\/a> is another Niagara-area winemaker receiving great acclaim for their premium wines.
